You know how when characters go over the waterfalls movies it always looks epic and majestic? After visiting Niagara Falls, I have to admit, that reputation is rightly earned.
My parents and I headed to Canada in order to witness the beauty of the famous falls, and it was a great experience. I’m going to warn you right now, though: if you hate loud noises and/or getting wet, you’re probably not going to have a good time. In order to tour the falls, you have to purchase passes for each member of your party. You’ll be permitted to view the falls from multiple platforms afterwards. The waterfall was massive, churning, and constantly roaring with the sound of the turquoise water rushing over the ledge and falling with a spray below. From this distance, you can already appreciate the power of this natural wonder.
We headed down to the lower levels of the park center to get a closer look at the base of the falls. Make sure you pick up a poncho before you do, though! This close to the bottom of the falls, we were constantly being sprayed by water.
We also took a boat tour of the falls, and could observe them from the middle of the basin.
]However, my favorite part was going behind the falls through a tunnel carved into the ledge. These stone passageways were very narrow, slippery, and damp. Although the number of people meant that we had to each inch forward in order to see the water pouring down in front of the mouth of the tunnel, it was fascinating to see a waterfall from behind.

There was also a path available to walk alongside the river as it flowed downstream. The beautiful blue-green water was constantly foaming with white. It reminded me of that one scene in The Fellowship of the Ring where the Nazgûl are washed away by a huge wave in the Bruinen River.
There was actually a fireworks display scheduled to take place over the falls that night too, but unfortunately we noted the wrong time and missed it. So there’s another vacation tip- make sure to double check the time of scheduled events in whatever local area you’re going to!
Although we missed out on that opportunity, it was still an awe-inducing experience to watch the power of Niagara Falls as the water roared over the cliffs! I think the constant mist of water you’ll be showered with during your visit to the falls makes this a fun place to visit in the summer!
