Matcha is one of my favorite flavors in dessert. It has a smooth and mellow flavor that I think goes very well with many textures! Thus, I was delighted when I discovered the existence of matcha Kit Kats. This particular Kit Kat was developed after appeals were made for more flavors of the crispy candy bar to be sold outside of Japan. Did you know that Kit Kats are apparently wildly popular in the Land of the Rising Sun and is available in over 350 kinds there? They have some crazy delicious (and some just plain crazy)- sounding flavors, ranging from cinnamon cookie to edamame!
As someone who appreciates finer details, I was already charmed by the packaging of the snack. The bag itself was beautifully designed, and featured a muted green color scheme- reminiscent of the underside of a leaf- with a simple visual aesthetic. It appeared to be made of a paper-based material that added to the overall natural theme that was being conveyed. Each of the individual bars were wrapped in a vibrant emerald wrapper, and had small spaces for personal messages!

The snack consisted of a smooth, matcha-flavored white chocolate covering the crispy stacked wafer cookies. I appreciated how the green tea flavor wasn’t smothered with sugar; although it was slightly sweetened, the deep, slightly bitter taste of matcha remained prominent. I actually prefer these to regular Kit Kats, which become slightly nauseating when you eat too many because of how rich and sweet the chocolate is. Overall, the combination of smooth matcha mixed with a crunchy cookie made for a deliciously addictive snack. (Honestly, I ate more of the bag than I’d like to admit!) My experience with matcha Kit Kats makes me want to try more of the spectrum of flavors that have been developed for the brand! Even if you dislike regular Kit Kats, I think that among the 350+ kinds that have been created, you’re bound to find one that suits your tastes!
