Sometimes dining alone can be the very thing you need to take a step back from the business of everyday life. If you’re craving ramen and looking for a place to enjoy it in peace, look no further than Ichiran!
The ramen shop is shot through with traditional Japanese dining practices, from the greeting that the servers meet you with to the noren that hangs between the lobby and the dining area. Ichiran is ideal for dining solo; the way that the restaurant is set up places dividers between patrons, so you can focus solely on your meal. After filling out a questionnaire for your meal, (where you can mix and match toppings for your ramen, choose the thickness of the noodles, and control the flavor of the broth), you are served through a latch built into the front of your cubicle. Your server receives your order and serves you from it, creating a very private experience!

There are colorful signs and introductions placed on the inside of your cubicle that introduce various Japanese phrases and teach you a little about the background and practice of enjoying ramen, which you can read while you wait.
Their classic tonkatsu ramen is a delight to enjoy, with thin noodles in a rich and flavorful broth waiting to be topped with slices of tonkatsu and nori sheets. A matcha pudding for dessert (which they won’t bring until you indicate that you’re ready by placing a little dish on top of a button built into the table) rounds off the meal nicely! Ichiran accepts no tips, as is practiced in Japan, where good service is included along with the meal. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy some delicious ramen in a traditional setting on your own, Ichiran is the place to go!
